The ranks
“At the end of ranked runs, you gain or lose stars depending on how many badges you had. Earn stars to climb the ranks!”
Ranked is a ladder of 6 tiers. Each tier below Master has 8 sub-ranks, counting down from 8 (lowest) to 1 (highest). You start at Bronze 8 and climb - clear a tier's top rung to reach the next tier.
Stars
Each sub-rank takes 5 stars to clear. Every run gains or loses stars based on your wins:
stars = wins - 5A 5-win run breaks even; 10 wins gains 5, 0 wins loses 5. Run out of stars and you demote - but you'll never drop below Bronze 8.

Opponent strength
In the lower tiers, opponents' teams are weakened - most at Bronze, easing off each tier until Diamond, where you face full-strength teams. To balance this, your rating's win bar (below) is higher in nerfed tiers - up to 9 wins instead of 5.5 - so progress reflects real strength by Master.
Master & MMR
“At Master tier, you no longer earn stars. Instead, you gain or lose rating points that rank you against other Master players. The number on your Master icon is your current placement.”
At Master there are no more stars. You carry a rating (MMR), starting at 1000, and the number on your badge is your live spot on the global leaderboard.
Each run moves your rating by comparing your wins to an expected-wins target- an Elo estimate from your opponents' average rating:
rating change = round( (wins - expectedWins) × 20 )Against an even lobby the bar is 5.5 wins. Tougher opponents lower it (so the same record earns more); weaker ones raise it. It never quite reaches 8.3, so a near-perfect run always gains a little.
